THE MET GALA 2017 Red Carpet Review - Part 1

The first Monday in May is like a Christmas for fashion folk like myself. It’s the annual Metropolitan Museum GALA benefit that makes everyone in fashion in a tizzy. This year the Theme of the exhibit is the work of REI KAWAKUBO who is the creative force for Comme Des Garçons.

I have a deep respect for Ms Kawakubo’s work and she has really been a strong force in my design journey and I really am so happy that she is given this distinction and honour. I pray that I get to see the exhibition before it ends because I am certain that it will be inspiring.

The GALA is a magnet for the worlds of fashion, music, film, art and entertainment. The whole fashion community unites in gathering together for one cause and I always find it so fascination. The theme is not going to an easy one because COMME has always been conceptual and highly cerebral. So this year the red carpet will be very interesting as I am keen is seeing how these beautiful people will look.

So here is my little peanut gallery review and do let me know your thoughts? This will be certainly fun.

Kendall Jenner in La Perla Haute Couture - The back side of this dress is also very revealing showing lots of cheeks! To be honest I don’t think it’s MET GALA material. It could be a great look for a beach formal party but the whole ensemble looks off

Amy Schumer in Zac Posen - She certainly loves her leather. I just saw her NETFLIX show and it was HILARIOUS! I am sure that she is just having fun with all of this and she doesn’t really care so much. I think the dress is flattering but it could have been better in a more matte material.

Ashley Graham in H&M - I love her curves and how she is showing the entire world to learn to embrace this with much panache. Her dress is certainly dramatic and it really does make her look sexy. I would have edited the center hardware in the skirt part and changed the ivory corset in to a deep red or burgundy to make her look taller.

Bella Hadid in Alexander Wang - This is just terrible! I mean of all the things that one can wear? This is simply baffling!

Blake Lively - This could be my worst dressed! I don’t get it? It looks to me like a really over the top National Costume for a Miss Universe contestant. It would have been far more beautiful if the blue feathers were removed.

Cara Delevingne - I like the statement and I thought it was a smart move. This is quite editorial and fun.

Celine Dion - This is just the wrong number? It’s like the dress has a split personalty….Plus that little peek of the body suit is just an eye sore.

Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa - OH MY GOODNESSS!!!! Do these people dress up in the dark? LOL! I have no words.

Elle Fanning - Finally! A breath of fresh, beautiful air! I love this because it is just gorgeous. Refined, simple and lovely.

Emmy Rossum - We have another winner here! I find this both modern and classic at the same time! BRAVO!

Gigi Hadid in Tommy Hilfiger - If not for the pany hose exposed hosiery…..This would have been a home run. I wasn’t sure what move the hose was but it didn’t help. I do like the entire idea and she looks great.

Gwyneth Palthrow in Calvin Klein A true nod to the 90’s! What is amazing is after all these years she still looks exactly the same. Plus that hue of pink should already by called Gwyneth Pink.

Hailee Steinfeld - Someone forgot to hand her her pants!

Haley Bennett - OK! We have that eccentric Grand aunt look perfected here.

Halle Berry - Is it like the Emperor’s new clothes theory all over again? Why must be put out clothes without the lining?

Jennifer Lopez in Valentino - My best dressed of the evening!!!! Bow down to JLO! BRAVO!

Jessica Chastain - Sweet and very beauty and the beast!

Karlie Kloss in Carolina Herrera - She looks great but wildly inappropriate. NO?

Kate Hudson - GODDESS!!!!

Katie Holmes in Zac Posen Very chic! I love this color and the entire look is generally a winner.

Kerry Washington in Micheal Kors Theres something off about this entire look. I cannot put my finger on it but the proportions seem off.

Kim Kardashian - Keeping it nice and low key.

Kylie Jenner in Versace - BOOM!!!! We caught the ebola virus inspired dress here.

Lily-Rose Depp - I LOVE THIS!!! I adore the color and I think it’s so chic.

Lupita Nyong'o in Prada - YIKES! She looks very old in this number. I don’t think it’s flattering.

Madonna in Jeremy Scott OH DEAR!!! Where does one begin?

Maggie Gyllenhaal - Really? I mean what a waste of perfectly good material?

Mary J. Blige in La Perla - I like that this is very on brand.

Miranda Kerr - Classic and oh very sweet! I appreciate it when people wear things that resonate with their persona.

Naomi Watts - Black with a veiled twist!

Nicki Minaj in Custom H&M - This just makes me sad.

Reese Witherspoon - I LOVE IT! I love how it makes her look tall and beautiful!

Rihanna in Comme Des Garcon - Very few people in the world can carry this. Rihanna is one of them! BRAVO!!!!

Rita Ora Like a beautiful fashion present! I like the humour in this one and she pulled it off very well.

Ruby Rose - What a funny mix of elements. I am still truing to wrap my heads around it.

Salma Hayek I would have lowered the neckline by 4 inches and then this would have been perfect.

Sarah Paulson - WOW! What happened? This was like a train wreck of sorts. The one where you just can’t look at what’s happening. DISASTER!

Selena Gomez - Sweet like a fresh summers peach!

Solange Knowles - Finally…. A look that one can sink their teeth into! This is a winner because she can carry it with authenticity and it’s a reflection of the theme.

Zendaya in Dolce & Gahanna - It’s like one bad burrito exploded and were all suffering because of it.

Zoe Kravitz in Oscar De La Renta - She is so beautiful I love her face. I would have edited the gown’s flowers on the sleeves though.
