The second night of our cruise was the birthday of one of our own Always Famous crew, the charming and talented Markki Stroem. He was turning 30 on the trip and he celebrated several ways. First, he gave us two mini concerts where he sang his own jazz themed arrangements of current hits as well as the classics. We then ushered his dirty 30s with a rocking party on one of the ships clubs which was really excellent fun.
We ended the night with enough energy to wake up and catch the sun rise gloriously over the Taiwan sea. We would be visiting Kaohsiung and I was really excited as I have not been before. I've heard that the best eats are to be found here so I was ready to explore. We got on land and immediately boarded our buses towards lunch. Kaohsiung, being a sea side town, is known for their delicious sea food and we had fish cooked in all possible ways: steamed, stir fried, deep fried, stewed, made into soup and a few more ways that was just surprising!
We then moved over to a beautiful temple for some contemplation and a few photo opportunities. LOL! Before we all knew it, it was time to get back on the boat where we would be having an “In The Mood For Love” themed dinner where we all dressed up in various interpretations of Chinese dress. I loved the photos that I was able to take and the beautiful memories that happened that evening. The night ended with Markki’s birthday concert where we all had a marvelous time. I did catch up on some reading when I was on the cruise and I am so happy that my friend Arnel Patawaran lent me his novel for me to read. I am still enjoying “Cutting for Stone” as it reminds me of my trip to Ethiopia.
