The first stop of the Always Famous Cruise is in Curimao! This port city of Laoag in Ilocos. We were all so excited to get to visit VIGAN as I have only been once and I desperately wanted to see it all again. I wanted to capture that old world feeling again and get close to my roots. It took us another two hours to get to VIGAN and when we got there we had a lovely lunch amidst a verdant hidden garden and had some Ilocano empanadas and other treats.
We then moved towards the famed Calye Crisologo on VIGAN with it’s cobbled stone streets and homes that withstood the test of time and kept everything like we were back in the17th century. Sadly we only had one hour to fully take it all in and in a way this brief visit kept me wanting more and hopefully I get to see VIGAN again soon. What I took back for me was this beautiful image of a woman seeking turnips on the street. She had this beautiful face with kind eyes and a winsome smile. I felt that she had this joy with her and a sense of contentment that made me happy. That alone was worth the trip and visit to this ancient part of the Philippines that everyone should see at least once. Do come in comfortable clothes as it does get really hot in VIGAN. Other than that it was really a wonderful experience.
